The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International) is the leading society in the mobility industry which focuses on automotive engineering, aerospace science and engineering, and commercial vehicles. This paper gives a brief review of the overall vision and mission of SAE International focusing on education, research and leadership, the current initiatives towards SAE International activities in Turkey and the short term and long term plans for establishing SAE International-Turkey, involving not only the areas of automotive engineering and commercial vehicles, but also, aerospace science and engineering

SAE International or Society of Automotive Engineers is a society which focuses on not only automotive engineering, but also, aerospace science and engineering. Its mission is to bring a global body of scientists, engineers, and practitioners that advance self-propelled vehicle and system knowledge in a neutral forum for the benefit of society. With a clear vision, SAE International is the leader in connecting and educating engineers while promoting, developing and advancing aerospace, commercial vehicle and automotive engineering [1].

The SAE International enterprise is preeminent in serving its members and industry by providing [2]:

With its vision 2020, SAE International will be #1 in the mobility industry by connecting students, engineers, academicians, scientists, universities and institutions world-wide, disseminating mobility-related knowledge through education, standards and technical publications, leading in global standardization and helping create knowledge generation that helps innovation and policies [3]. SAE International serves the mobility industry with a focus on aerospace and automotive engineering, and Turkey has a lot of potential opportunities in these areas for growth and development. Thus, it is beneficial to both SAE International and Turkey to establish a chapter, section and affiliate of SAE in Turkey, in that order, as short to long term goals. This paper gives a brief history of SAE International, discusses current activities towards establishing SAE International in Turkey which currently focuses on automotive engineering, describes a road-map with short term and long term goals and benefits, and discusses the future implications in aerospace engineering and industry in Turkey.
